China Trip, Day 2, The Great Wall

Seeing the Great Wall was definitely a highlight of our trip. It was Avary's favorite part for sure. The place we went to was extremely crowded with tourists because it was the only place the tour buses could easily go. We climbed up to the first tower, and Avary insisted on climbing by herself. It was really steep in some places with very big steps, but she didn't want to turn around or be carried. At first she was sad because she was expecting there to be dragons on the wall. Before the trip when we were talking about China and looking at pictures, she somehow got the idea that there would be dragons on the wall (nice ones, that wouldn't eat us), so when we got on the wall and there weren't dragons she was sad. But she got over it, and had a fun time. She still talks about it. I'm glad she has at least one positive memory from the trip, since the rest of it wasn't really all that exciting for little kids.

Steep.

Avary really wanted to take a picture of us, so this is her work. She also wanted us to hold hands for the picture.
This lady was trying SO hard to get her little girl to stand by Avary for a picture. But the little girl just kept fussing and running away. But her Mom was very determined, so I figured I'd get some pictures while she was trying. She managed to get her little girl to stand by Avary for a couple of seconds. It was funny.:)

Here is a video of Avary climbing up, and also after she got to the first tower.

  1. Very cool! I so want to go there someday! Too bad you guys didn't find any dragons, that would have been pretty awesome!
