After lunch on our second day, we went to visit the Summer Palace, located in the foothills of Beijing. It is where the Emperor and his family would retreat in the hot summer months from the Forbidden City.
Tour guide tidbit: the lake we crossed in the Dragon Ferry is the largest manmade lake in the world. It is where the Emperor trained the royal Navy and staged sea battles.
Sam likes dragons, boats, and water.

Main palace on the hill where the Emperor acted royal and enjoyed the naval games.

Emperor's garden stream w/ lilly pads, frogs, etc. about 50 feet from the lake.

Sam at the end of the two-hour walking tour of the Summer Palace. He rode in the backpack the whole time. He was DONE with the Summer Palace. Very Sleepy Boy
