One Saturday this month, we went to the Nisqually Wildlife Regufe. We'd passed this place so many times the first time we lived here, but had never gone to see it before. It was a lot of fun and so interesting the learn about. It's right by the shores of Puget Sound, and has a long history of being a home for the Nisqually tribe, and then farmland for decades, and then when the farm was eventually sold, it was going to become a transportation port, but a grassroots effort saved it and it became a wildlife preserve. It now has miles of trails and lots of birds. And lots of water, of course. It's really beautiful.
The "twin barns" that were built back in the 1930's when the land was being farmed still stand. Not far from these barns is the dike that the first farmer built to block the saltwater from the sound.
If you look close, you can see two Eagles in that tree.
In the distance is the Olympic Mountain range.
